Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence

A closer look at the couple headlining BritBox's fall slate — the cast, the century-old source material, and why this adaptation is a first for Christie.

Beyond the Stream is British TV Hub's recurring deep-dive on the season's biggest show — the cast, the source material, and the story behind the story. Look for a new one each season.

Antonia Thomas and Josh Dylan as Tuppence and Tommy Beresford

A First for Christie

Tommy & Tuppence is the first time any Agatha Christie property has been reimagined as a contemporary, English-language series. Previous adaptations — including the 1983 Partners in Crime and a 2015 update — kept the story in its original period setting. This version moves Tommy Beresford and Tuppence into present-day London, keeping the playful chemistry and amateur-detective spirit that made the pair so different from Christie's other creations.

It's a six-episode season, with two episodes airing on premiere day and one new episode arriving weekly after that.

From the Page: The Secret Adversary

Tommy and Tuppence first appeared in Christie's 1922 novel The Secret Adversary — her second published book, and the one that introduced two amateur detectives-for-hire with more nerve than experience. Unlike Poirot or Marple, the Beresfords aged in real time across Christie's novels: they're unmarried and just starting out here, newlyweds by the following book, and grandparents by the time of her final Tommy & Tuppence novel. This new series draws its central relationship from that same source, even as it updates the setting entirely.

"Eras of Agatha Christie": Part of a Bigger BritBox Celebration

Tommy & Tuppence's September 15 premiere anchors a month-long "Eras of Agatha Christie" celebration on BritBox. A run of classic Marple and Poirot films joins the platform that same day, sorted into five themed collections:

A Taste for Poison
The ones laced with something deadlier than tea — Murder Is Easy (1982)
Secrets & Spies
Undercover work and hidden identities — Tommy & Tuppence (2026), Murder Most Foul (1964), Thirteen at Dinner (1985)
Destination: Murder
Murder with a change of scenery — A Caribbean Mystery (1983), Murder Ahoy (1964)
Murders in the Village
English village life, deadlier than it looks — Murder Most Foul (1964), Murder She Said (1962), Murder at the Gallop (1963), Murder Is Easy (1982)
Her Darker Side
Christie at her most sinister — The Alphabet Murders (1966), Murder Is Easy (1982)

All titles above are new to BritBox on September 15, 2026, the same day as Tommy & Tuppence.
