About the show
The Gold dramatizes the real 1983 Brink's-Mat robbery, in which armed thieves broke into a warehouse near Heathrow expecting cash and walked out with roughly £26 million in gold bullion — at the time, the biggest robbery in British history. Written and created by Neil Forsyth and produced by Tannadice Pictures, the series follows the money as it works its way through smelters, fences, and money launderers over the following decade. It is a dramatization rather than a documentary: some characters, including Charlotte Spencer's DI Nicki Jennings, are fictional creations inspired by real figures on the investigation, while others — including Boyce, Jack Lowden's Kenneth Noye, and Tom Cullen's John Palmer — are based directly on real people. Hugh Bonneville leads as DCI Brian Boyce, the real police officer and former soldier who headed the Metropolitan Police task force, alongside Charlotte Spencer and Emun Elliott as detectives Nicki Jennings and Tony Brightwell.
