Jimmy McGovern's BAFTA-winning anthology drama moves inside a Young Offenders Institution for its third outing, examining what it costs teenagers to be locked up — and what it costs the staff responsible for looking after them. David Tennant joins as Custodial Manager Bailey, a man carrying his own crisis, opposite Siobhan Finneran returning as prison chaplain Marie-Louise, who arrives at the YOI already having lost her faith.

About the show

Time began in 2021 as a three-part vehicle for Sean Bean and Stephen Graham set inside a men's prison, before McGovern shifted focus to a women's prison for Season 2 with Jodie Whittaker, Tamara Lawrance, and Bella Ramsey. Siobhan Finneran is the one actor to appear across all three seasons. For Season 3, co-writer Samuel Bailey joins McGovern, and the ensemble expands to include Daniel Ryan as fellow Custodial Manager Freddie Jennings, Jo Joyner as Nicola, Vinette Robinson as Erica, and Louis McCartney, Ollie McNulty, and Chukwubuikem Molokwu among the young offenders at the center of the season. Paul Whittington directs, and Amanda Black — also behind Blue Lights and World on Fire — produces. The series is a BBC Studios Fiction production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, co-produced by BritBox for North America with support from Northern Ireland Screen.

When does it premiere?

A firm US premiere date hasn't been announced yet. Season 3 runs three episodes, the same length as the first two seasons, and is expected this autumn on BritBox — check back here for updates as a date is confirmed.
