British Comedy Drama · ITV · 2004–2022
A brilliant London surgeon develops a sudden phobia of blood and retreats to a sleepy Cornish village as the local GP — where his prickly, tactless bedside manner collides with a cast of eccentric locals. Gorgeous Port Isaac scenery, gentle humour, and a slow-building romance make this one of the most comforting watches in British television. Ten series of pure escapism. Doc Martin is available on Acorn TV — see British TV Hub's full guide to where to watch British TV in the US.

About the show
Doc Martin was created by Dominic Minghella, who developed the character from a Martin Clunes cameo in the 2000 film Saving Grace — and gave the doctor the surname Ellingham, an anagram of his own. Clunes starred opposite Caroline Catz as Louisa across all ten series, with the show produced by Buffalo Pictures, the company Clunes co-owns with his wife and the show's producer, Philippa Braithwaite. The series ran for eighteen years on ITV, concluding with a Christmas Day special in 2022 after 79 episodes filmed largely around the real Cornish village of Port Isaac.
