British Cozy Mystery · BBC · 2011–present
A fish-out-of-water British detective is posted to the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, where paradise hides a startling murder rate — and a steady stream of impossible, locked-room puzzles. Sun, sand, and a beautifully formulaic 'gather the suspects' reveal each week make this irresistibly cheerful comfort telly. The lead detectives change over the years, but the breezy charm never does. Death in Paradise is available on BritBox; compare BritBox and Acorn TV if you're deciding between the two.

About the show
Robert Thorogood created Death in Paradise after reading a newspaper report about a real suspected murder in the Caribbean during a Cricket World Cup, and built the show around a structural gimmick that's kept it going for fifteen series: five different lead detectives so far, from Ben Miller's Richard Poole to the current Don Gilet, with each predecessor written out (one was killed off) so a new fish-out-of-water can be posted to the island. Don Warrington has anchored every single series as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson since the show began in 2011. Its popularity has since spawned two spin-offs, Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise.
