About the show
In 1946, Agatha Christie watched Joan Hickson on stage and told her, "I hope one day you will play my dear Miss Marple" — a wish fulfilled nearly forty years later when Hickson took the role at 78.
Over eight years, the series dramatised all twelve Miss Marple novels, filmed on location across England — with Nether Wallop in Hampshire standing in for St Mary Mead — and Barbados for A Caribbean Mystery.
Hickson is widely considered the definitive screen Miss Marple, a standard later adaptations with Geraldine McEwan and Julia McKenzie have been measured against ever since.
