About the show
Jane Austen was working on Sanditon, an eleven-chapter fragment set in a seaside resort town, when she died in 1817 — and Andrew Davies, the screenwriter behind Pride and Prejudice and War & Peace, expanded that fragment into the full series. Rose Williams stars as Charlotte Heywood throughout, opposite Theo James for the first series and, in a supporting role, Kris Marshall (also familiar from Death in Paradise) as Tom Parker. ITV cancelled the show after one series in 2019, but a fan campaign and strong PBS Masterpiece ratings brought it back for two more series, concluding in 2023.
