Shows Like Sherlock

The Short Answer

1. Luther — Idris Elba's brilliant, emotionally volatile detective gets inside the minds of London's most disturbing killers — a darker, more psychologically intense heir to Sherlock's gift for reading people others can't. (BritBox)
2. Jonathan Creek — A reclusive magic-trick designer applies his gift for illusion to solving apparently impossible crimes — a different flavor of genius than Sherlock's, but the same delight in a fiendishly clever puzzle solved through pure reasoning. (BritBox)
3. Ripper Street — Detectives in Whitechapel investigate brutal crimes in the shadow of Jack the Ripper — the same 1890s London that Conan Doyle wrote Holmes into, rendered with real grit and moral complexity. (BritBox)
4. Miss Scarlet — Victorian London's first female private detective takes on cases Scotland Yard can't crack — set in the same foggy, gaslit London where Holmes made his name, with the same relish for a clever deduction. (PBS Masterpiece)
5. Endeavour — The young Endeavour Morse's earliest cases in 1960s Oxford — a quieter, more melancholic kind of brilliant mind than Sherlock's, but built from the same tradition of a singular genius solving what everyone else overlooks. (PBS Masterpiece)
