Robert Carlyle plays a laid-back village constable in the Scottish Highlands, in a series based on M.C. Beaton's Hamish Macbeth novels. Fans of Agatha Raisin will recognise Beaton's eccentric village characters and gentle, humorous approach to crime.
Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris play two women who start a gardening business together and find themselves solving murders in the gardens they are hired to tend. Like Agatha, they are women making a fresh start in midlife who prove sharper than anyone expects.
A young detective sergeant returns to the village of Wildemarsh, where her three aunts, all crime novelists, cannot resist helping with her cases. Its bright colours, comic tone and meddling amateurs make it a close cousin of Agatha Raisin.
Sally Lindsay plays an antiques dealer who moves to a village in the south of France after her husband's mysterious death and ends up solving local crimes. Like Agatha, Jean is a woman starting over somewhere new, surrounded by colourful neighbours and the occasional murder, and a fifth series has now been commissioned.
Roger Allam and Nancy Carroll play an investigating judge and his partner, Marine, solving murders around Aix-en-Provence in adaptations of M.L. Longworth's novels. It offers the same sunny, food-filled escapism as Agatha Raisin, with a mystery at the heart of each story.
Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby investigates murders in the deceptively peaceful villages of Midsomer, where fetes and flower shows often hide dark secrets. Its picture-postcard villages and eccentric locals are close cousins of Carsley.
Crossword setter Judith Potts, played by Samantha Bond, teams up with two new friends in the Thames-side town of Marlow to solve murders the police cannot. Like Agatha, they are amateurs who refuse to leave it to the professionals.
Jane Seymour plays a newly retired literature professor in Dublin who discovers a talent for solving crimes, much to the frustration of her detective son. Her refusal to stay out of other people's business will feel very familiar to Agatha Raisin fans.
